Korođ – Kórógy

Korođ (Kórógy in Hungarian) is a small village in the municipality of Tordinci, Vukovar-Srijem County. It is counted among the oldest Hungarian settlements in present-day Croatia, and Hungarian is still an official language here alongside Croatian.

A fortification stood on the site of the village before 1290. The village is named after the medieval Kórógyi noble family.

The street the house is on is named after Šandor Petefi – Sándor Petőfi, the best-known Hungarian poet. The village community centre bears the same name.

The plain

Between trips – fields and silence

The land around Korođ is open plain: fields of maize, wheat and sunflowers, rows of trees, canals and small villages. It is country for slow drives or bike rides, walks along the fields and long sunsets.

The Drava and the Danube lie to the north and east, and the Hungarian border is not far – Korođ is a good base for getting to know the whole Danube region.
